Arctic Monkeys - New Band of the Moment

Hot new band of the moment are Arctic Monkeys, who were last heard by us a few days ago doing a cover of Love Machine by Girls Aloud on Radio 1. The boys from Sheffield share a love of The Smiths, The Clash and The Jam, and these influences come through in their music. Most notable though is the quality of the song lyrics, with band member Alex influenced by Mancunian poet John Cooper Clarke. “He’s this dead skinny guy with big mad hair, red tinted glasses and drainpipe jeans, a proper character,” raves Alex. “Everyone tells us we’ve got a shit band name but he was like ‘That’s great! There’s no trees in the arctic! How would it survive?’ He painted this picture instantly, a real creative mind!”
