Joe McElderry Beaten to Christmas No 1

Joe McElderry has been beaten to the Christmas No 1 by Rage Against the Machine's "Killing in the Name" after a Facebook organised campaign to beat the X-Factor to the most important No 1 of the year. The lyrics to the young X-Factor winner's single "The Climb", which talked of somtimes having to lose, seemed quite apt. The fact that it was such a close run contest still says a lot about X-Factor's selling power, as they had to take on a massive viral internet campaign. Rage Against the Machine are a great rock band and when speaking to Radio 1's Scott Mills on the Sunday Chart Show, guitarist Tom Morello said that they will donate a lot of the windfall to the Shelter charity. He also took the opportunity to congratulate Simon Cowell and Joe McElderry on their Christmas Number Two.

Given the talent of Joe McElderry though, we don't expect it to be long before he has a Number One of his own.
