Here at Navito
Internet Shopping we have been watching with interest the
Girls Aloud Off the Record documentary that airs on Tuesday nights on the excellent
Freeview channel E4. The first thing that we learnt was that being in Girls Aloud is actually quite hard work, with the girls being seen bleary eyed getting ready for their early morning appearance on GMTV, and Saturdays are probably the hardest day of the week for them, with their demanding schedule of children's
television appearances (a key market for them as their record company rep tells us).
We also learnt more about their attitudes towards the press, with Cheryl Tweedy telling us how she still can feel sick about how she has been portrayed, and how she had to deal with the nasty side of fame from the very beginning after, in her words, "I got myself into a bit of a pickle in a nightclub, like any normal teenage girl does." Like many celebrities, Girls Aloud find it hard if not impossible to escape from the paparazzi, with Cheryl and Ashley Cole not being left alone when they tried to escape for a
Valentine's Day meal after attending a Julian McDonald
fashion show. It's not just in London that the press pursue them either, with Kimberley Walsh being incredulous when Nicola Roberts spots the paparazzi in the bushes when the girls are taking a break from their hectic schedule at a
holiday villa in Ibiza.
Our favourite quote so far is from Calum Best, attending a Girls Aloud photoshoot and commenting on Sarah Harding he said, "Trouble ... very pretty though." The last thing that we found out is that Sarah has a wicked smile and laugh ... demonstrated when she bemoaned the scarcity of heterosexual men working behind the scenes in the media and when practising her Spanish. You'll see what we mean when she translates, "Que tiene para mi ahora".
We would recommend this as essential viewing on E4, so if you don't have Freeview already, maybe now is the time to get a
Freeview Box or
IDTV.
We also noticed that the
girlsaloud.co.uk website has been redesigned, and a new Girls Aloud Arena Tour kicks off on the 22nd May at the Nottingham Arena.
