UK Broadband Provider Options

If you haven't got broadband yet, take a look at our UK broadband provider page for some information about signing up for broadband. Our current recommendation is Tesco, for both value and good technical support. Once you've got broadband, you'll wonder how you ever managed without it.

Freeview PVR Options

We've been having a look at the Freeview PVR market. In case you don't know already, PVR stands for personal video recorder, and a Freeview PVR is a device that can receive Freeview digital TV and record it onto its internal hard drive. We think one of the best features about these PVRs is that they allow you to pause live TV. So, if your favourite chum phones during your favourite programme, it's no longer a problem, because the PVR can pause the live transmission, usually for up to half an hour. However, we guess a disadvantage is that the excuse "Sorry dearest, I'm trying to watch East Enders / Hollyoaks / Match of the Day" is no longer going to work. When they interrupt you, you can now just use the pause button, and you can even rewind the channel you have been watching for up to half an hour. Clever stuff, all done by the internal hard drive.

If you want to find out more, take a look at our Freeview PVR Review, our Freeview products catalogue (for Freeview boxes and Freeview PVRs), or our PVR products catalogue (which features PVR products that bring TV to your computer).

Charlotte Church on Radio One

Charlotte Church was the guest of the Chris Moyles show on Tuesday. Charlotte has a new video out, "Call My Name", from her album Tissues and Issues, where she's gone for a sexy Chicago-esque look, dressed in a basque and high-heeled ladies boots. We think the song and video are great. In her interview with Mr Moyles, Charlotte said she was a naturally lazy person, and would skive off work were it not for her manager. She also admitted she is trying to quit smoking. Chris Moyles asked Charlotte how she got paid for her early work, and she revealed she gets a Trust fund payment every Thursday. Chris enjoyed teasing the Welsh lass, saying it was a bit like getting a giro, but then revealed that he leaves his Mum to look after his money - ahhh, bless.

X-Factor Update

X-Factor was in Scotland this week, and it seemed to be Sharon that was getting all the attention. She had a lady claiming to be her biggest fan, who gave her a hug and got all choked up about it, and a 4'3" man who felt she was the most beautiful lady in the world and proposed to her with a heart shaped ring leant to him by the X-Factor presenters. Sharon is always kind to her fans, and she said "yes" to both of them, although we think it was only the little guy who went through, as he was a half decent singer and Louis felt he was entertaining.

Nokia was promoting the Nokia 6101 Clamshell phone during the X-Factor commercial break.

X Factor 2005 Update

Saturday 3rd September's episode was notable for Louis getting nasty, and making a whole load of cutting comments that Simon would have been proud of. It all got a bit too much for Sharon, and she ended up throwing Louis' drink over him. There's more on our new X Factor 2005 page.

New Robbie Williams Album - Intensive Care

The Robbie Williams Intensive Care Album will be released in the UK on 24th October. Robbie recorded the new album in Los Angeles, where he has been based for the last few years to help fulfil his ambition of making it in America. To date Robbie has not achieved the same heights of superstardom over the pond, so we wait with interest to see what his new album brings. The first single to be released in the UK from "Intensive Care" will be "Tripping", and Robbie will be hand-delivering the track to the Chris Moyles Show for its first airplay at 7.45am on Monday 5th September.
